The Public Relations Department of Thailand, in cooperation with the Royal Photographic Society of Thailand, organized the photography exhibition and award ceremony for winners of the 2019 National ASEAN Photography Contest, which was held this year on the occasion of Thailand assuming the chairmanship of ASEAN for 2019.
Entries were accepted with the theme of “Pride of ASEAN.” A record 5,235 entries were received during March 2019 from Thai photographers from around the country to compete for the prizes totaling 400,000 baht. The winners were selected by a panel of distinguished judges who are active in a variety of fields. Winners were selected based on a variety of criteria, including their suitability to the theme, the strength of the message and level of creativity.
The award winning photographs are “Kalasin’s Sea of Tung” by Jamikorn Srikham for the first prize of 80,000 baht and a trophy, “Paying Homage to Pha That Luang Vientiane” by Sunchai Buasong for the second prize of 50,000 baht and a trophy, “Bathing the Buddha” by Jirapong Wongwiwat for the third prize of 30,000 baht and a trophy, and 50 other photographs for their outstanding beauty, each of which receives the prize of 5,000 baht and a certificate.
Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office Tewan Liptapallop presided over the award ceremony which took place at Central Plaza Grand Rama 9, Bangkok. All winning photographs will be turned into the “Pride of ASEAN” photo books as one of the souvenirs to be given to the ASEAN leaders who will be attending the 35th ASEAN Summit between 2 – 4 November 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand.
